Promoting IT jobs: OTH Amberg-Weiden x IGZ | IGZ
Promoting IT jobs: Falkenberg becomes an “innovative place of learning”
To promote IT jobs, IGZ has been a partner of OTH Amberg-Weiden since 2016 and has been increasingly active as a sponsor of teaching and research activities in the “Industrial Engineering” degree program for five years. Now something big is coming: IGZ is becoming an innovative learning center and enabling practical work, for example, for internships in computer science, software development, and related fields. IGZ Managing Director Johann Zrenner is delighted about this next step in the partnership: “The designation as an innovative learning center is a great honor for our collaboration, the practical training of students, and joint research activities.” Mayor Matthias Grundler also emphasizes: “This strengthens our entire region, also in terms of well-trained specialists for the future-oriented intralogistics industry.”

Internships in computer science, working student positions in software development, and more
In collaboration with OTH Amberg-Weiden, the following topics, among others, will be taught in a practical manner: “Artificial intelligence (AI) in practice,” image processing, digitization, and software development. Johann Zrenner comments: “The high level of quality and the focus areas are in line with those of our company.” Thanks to the ILO designation, students can expect even stronger support from IGZ in the future when it comes to finding a job in the field of computer science or business informatics. They can already complete internships in computer science or software development, as well as practical excursions, and write bachelor's or master's theses in collaboration with the company, thus gaining their first practical experience directly in the industry. Working student positions in software development and other areas are also available. In addition, there are regular joint research projects and special SAP courses, as well as excursions to renowned customers. Students now also have access to learning and research environments that offer a more practical approach, such as the “IGZ Innovation Center” with state-of-the-art technology and IT equipment. Always there: IGZ as your point of contact for questions about computer science jobs, further training, and opportunities.
Artificial intelligence and IGZ
At IGZ, we established our own AI team over five years ago to focus on AI and work closely with OTH Amberg-Weiden in the field of research. Artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing science, industry, trade, and logistics in particular, and is already greatly reducing complexity in the form of networked machines and means of transport. This is highly relevant for OTH, as it is participating in the “Digital Campus” future project funded by the Free State of Bavaria. This results in a win-win situation for all involved. Students can conduct research using the latest AI technologies at the new “Innovative Learning Center” in Falkenberg, build up AI expertise, and also advance IGZ's research. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Günter Kummetsteiner from OTH praises the collaboration: “The support from IGZ is a great gain for us and the region. Experience has shown that many graduates want to stay in Eastern Bavaria, which means we can also contribute to securing the competitiveness of regional companies.”
IGZ Academy SAP Factory prepares students for IT jobs
The courses offered by the IGZ Academy, which are normally only available to our employees, are a special feature: we are now opening them up to OTH students as well. Andreas Spangler, Head of the Innovation & Competence Center at IGZ, is convinced: “By participating, students can acquire valuable knowledge and further education certificates on topics such as SAP, AI, logistics, and Industry 4.0 for their future careers.” The collaboration has already paid off for Falkenberg: “28 OTH graduates are already working at IGZ,” says Zrenner. Another success is the “SAP Factory” project launched by OTH and IGZ, a teaching and research platform for the practice-oriented mapping of operational processes for production and logistics. Here, students can learn about and practice all the essential core functions they will need later in their IT jobs in a factory-like environment. “We are always amazed by the innovative ideas of the students and, through the collaboration, we get to know promising professionals who can imagine working for us one day. Both sides benefit from each other,” says Spangler.

TEAMWORK is a top priority at IGZ. This is also evident at the annual departmental events. It's simply fun to see how everyone shows solidarity at different events, sometimes away from work, and also celebrates together. It's more than just a team, these are real friendships!
