Logistics@IGZ: control technology

“To me, control engineering is about technology, responsibility, and team spirit.”

– Achim at the Interview

What attracted you to your current job?

I didn’t start my career directly at IGZ. My professional journey began with technical training as an electrical installer. Back then, there weren’t yet any clearly defined specializations in the electrical trade, which was a real advantage for me: I was able to gain experience in a wide variety of areas and get involved in intralogistics early on—working with conveyor systems, storage and retrieval machines, new construction projects, and retrofits.

Alongside my work, I completed further training to become an electronics technician for automation technology—and earned my master craftsman’s certificate. After that, I progressed step by step: first on projects, then with additional responsibilities. I became a trainer, took over technical operations management, became a safety officer, and finally head of the control technology division. Now I manage our facility.

What has always appealed to me? The combination of technology, organizational challenges, and close collaboration with my team. I love taking on responsibility while staying closely involved with the projects every day.

What makes your work at IGZ particularly exciting?

Without a doubt: working with such a diverse group of colleagues. Our projects are technically challenging, no question, but what makes my job special are the people. The combination of collaborating on development, solving problems, and making real progress motivates me every day.

What skills are required in control engineering?

You don’t have to be a tech guru, but a few things are essential:

  • Teamwork, because everyone contributes to the big picture in our projects
  • A commitment to quality – precise work ensures smooth operations in the long run
  • Technical understanding: Curiosity and a passion for practical solutions are key

This field is ideal, especially for young talent who truly want to understand and apply technology.

What do you particularly appreciate about IGZ as an employer?

For me, it’s the exciting projects with well-known clients. It never gets boring here: not only do you work with cutting-edge technology, but you also get to see your own solutions in action in real-world systems. That’s really rewarding.

What would you say to someone thinking about getting started?

If you’re interested in technology, looking for exciting projects, and want to learn things that will help you not only in your career but also in your personal life, then come to IGZ. Here, you can grow, take on responsibility, and become part of a strong team.
